Short version: there is no account, no server storing anything about you, and your shortlist never leaves your own browser.
Nothing on a server, because there isn't one. This is a static site — a set of files. There is no database, no login, and no back end that could hold a record of you.
When you shortlist a facility or mark it as contacted, that is written to localStorage in your own browser under the key recovery-directory:v1. It stays on that device, it is never transmitted to us or to anyone else, and we cannot read it. Clearing your browser data deletes it. Using a different device or a private window will show an empty shortlist — that is expected, not a bug.
This does mean the shortlist is genuinely private, and also genuinely fragile. It is a scratchpad for comparing options, not a saved account.
The "closest to you" sort asks your browser for your location. Your browser will prompt you, and you can decline — the rest of the site works normally either way. If you allow it, the coordinates are used in your browser to calculate distances and are never sent to us or stored anywhere. Distances are measured to the centre of each metro, not to a street address.
Nothing loads until you agree. Google Analytics is not in this site's pages — it is fetched only after you press Accept on the cookie banner, and never at all if you press Decline. A banner that appears after the tracker has already run is decoration, not a choice, so we built it the other way round. Your answer is remembered in your browser's own storage, and you can change it any time from the Cookie choices link in the footer of every page.
If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track signal, we treat that as a decline and don't ask.
If you do accept, Google Analytics sets cookies and collects standard usage data — pages viewed, how you arrived, approximate location derived from your IP address, and device type. We use it to see which pages and metros people actually need, and nothing more. It is not used to identify you personally, we do not combine it with any other source, and we do not build a profile of you. Google's own documentation covers what it collects and how long it retains it.
You can opt out across all sites with Google's Analytics opt-out browser add-on, or by blocking cookies for this site — the site works normally either way.
If advertising is running on this site, it is served by Google and its partners, who may set cookies or use similar technologies to show ads — including, depending on your settings and location, ads based on your prior browsing. You can review and change Google's ad personalisation at My Ad Center, and opt out of third-party personalised advertising more broadly at aboutads.info.
If you are in the EEA or UK, you will be asked for consent before any non-essential cookies are set, and you can change or withdraw that choice at any time through the same banner.
Kept deliberately short. Google Fonts serves the typeface, which means your browser requests a file from Google. Google Analytics, and Google's advertising where enabled, as described above. That is the complete list — there are no other trackers, pixels, or embedded widgets, and this site loads no images from third parties.
Worth stating plainly given the subject matter: we do not ask for, receive, or store anything about your medical situation. There is no form on this site that collects health information. If you email us a correction, we will have whatever you chose to put in that email and nothing more, and we would rather you left clinical details out of it.
This site is intended for adults and is not directed at children.
